Associate Veterinarian – Dumont Animal Hospital | Dumont, NJ
We are looking for a veterinarian to join our team at Dumont Animal Hospital, a privately owned, noncorporate, five-doctor small animal and exotics practice in Dumont, New Jersey.
We have an immediate opening for a full-time or part-time NJ-licensed associate veterinarian. We welcome veterinarians of all experience levels, including new graduates.
What makes our practice special is the people. We have built a close-knit, family-friendly environment where people genuinely enjoy working together. Many of our employees have been with us for more than 20 years, some dating back to our beginning. We believe that says a great deal about the kind of hospital we are.
Our clients are equally loyal. Many families have trusted us with their pets since we opened, and we take great pride in the long-term relationships we have developed with them. We strive to provide the kind of compassionate, personal care that makes clients feel that their pets are truly known and cared for.
A Practice Where You Can Grow
Our owner graduated from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1993 and completed an Animal Medical Center internship in exotics in Manhattan. With decades of clinical experience, he enjoys teaching and mentoring veterinarians at every stage of their careers.
If you are a new graduate, you will have the opportunity to learn in a supportive environment rather than being expected to figure everything out on your own. If you are an experienced veterinarian, you will still have the opportunity to develop new skills, discuss cases, and learn from colleagues.
We see exotic pets, including birds, ferrets, and pocket pets, and we are happy to teach and mentor an associate who is interested in developing an interest in exotic animal medicine. Exotics experience is not required, however, and there is absolutely no expectation that you see exotic patients if that is not an area you wish to pursue.
We also encourage an interest in surgery and are happy to provide mentorship and opportunities for veterinarians who would like to develop their surgical skills. Performing surgery is not required if it is not something you want to do.
We believe that veterinary medicine is a lifelong learning process, which is why we provide paid continuing education and encourage our doctors to continue developing professionally.
Excellent Medicine Without the Corporate Environment
Our hospital is fully equipped and provides comprehensive medical and preventive care, hospitalization, digital radiology, soft tissue surgery, and small animal and exotic animal medicine.
We recently upgraded our veterinary software to improve efficiency, communication, and patient care. We have an experienced support team and strive to give our veterinarians the tools and support they need to practice good medicine.
At the same time, we remain a privately owned practice. We are not a corporate hospital where decisions are made by people who have never met our patients or our team. We know our clients, we know our patients, and we know the people who work alongside us.
Work-Life Balance Is Important to Us
We understand that being a good veterinarian does not mean being available 24 hours a day.
We offer flexible scheduling and make an effort to provide a reasonable work-life balance. We also provide dedicated time for charting during the workday, rather than expecting doctors to routinely finish their medical records after the last appointment.
No Emergency Duty Required. There are no after-hours emergencies or phone calls. After-hours emergency cases are referred to local veterinary ER hospitals.
We believe our doctors should be able to leave work and enjoy their personal lives without wondering whether the phone is going to ring with an emergency.
Compensation & Benefits
Full-Time Compensation: $130,000–$150,000
Higher compensation is available based on experience level.

You do not need to have years of experience. We enjoy mentoring new graduates. Whether you are interested in developing your skills in exotics, surgery, or another area of veterinary medicine, we are happy to support your professional interests. At the same time, we respect that every veterinarian has different interests, and we do not require you to practice in areas you do not enjoy.
We are looking for someone who wants to become part of our team and build lasting relationships with our clients, patients, and coworkers.
